The College so far

Since its inception, the college’s morale has been boosted up by participation in various competitions at different levels and in a number of social reformatory works apart from field work and project work of Science students in particular and other exposures in general.

In Literary: During 1996-99, the College keenly participated in the Essay, Quiz and Slogan Competitions organized and sponsored by Ukhrul District AIDS Department and bagged the

prestigious prizes. Thanks to the Ukhrul District AIDS Department. In 2002 also, the College snatched away the coveted prizes on Quiz and Poster Competition.

In 1996, the College participated in “Walk, Don’t Run” organized by GR Club, Ukhrul, and won the second prize in on-the-spot Essay Writing. The following year (1997) the College took part and made a clean sweep competitively in all the participated items.

In the Essay contest on the topic “Citizens Right to Information and its Propagation for effective implementation of R.T.I Acts-2005” organized by the District Administration Ukhrul on 7th August 2010, Tahring Ningshen, Class XII (Commerce) of Sentinel College bagged first position prize in the competition.

Amit Kumar Jain, XII (Com) of Sentinel College, Ukhrul secured 2nd position in the 10th State Level Accountancy Competition organized by Association of Commerce Alumni 2009.

In the Drawing/Painting competition 2011, on the theme: Our Natural Resources; Our Future, organized by UDCRMS/IFAD, Ukhrul HQs, Mr. Thanshok Raikhan, Class XII (Arts) of the College bagged 1st position prize.

In Sports: Miss Peimila Ronra Shimray, Class XI (Arts) of Sentinel College was selected and participated in the National Level (Volley-ball) 2010 representing Manipur.

In the Inter-School Level Sports Competition, 2010-2011 sponsored by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan held at Mini Stadium, Hungpung from 25th – 28th August 2010, Sentinel College was awarded first position in the boys/men’s volley-ball.

The District Level Inter-School Tournament organized by the District Youth Affairs and Sports Officer Ukhrul, Government of Manipur, on 23rd – 24th August 2010, at Mini Stadium, Hungpung, Sentinel College bagged both men’s and women’s first position (winner). The winning teams (Sentinel College) represented Ukhrul District in the State Level at Imphal.

In Academy: The College awarded meritorious certificates and cash awards to 11 (eleven) letter-mark holders of the college in Higher Secondary Examination 2011. In the Subject-wise topper of the Higher Secondary Examination 2012 Miss, Soyola Kasomwung topped in Geology subject in the stream of science. The college awarded meritorious certificates and cash awards to seven (7) letters marks holders of the college in Higher Secondary Examination 2012. In 2013 also 2(two) letter markers were Awarded. Miss, Philashang Kasar top in the subjectwise topper of the HSE, 2014 in Geology subject in the stream of Science. Seven (7) letter mark holders of HSE,2014 were also awarded meritorious certificates and cash awards.

In Social & Sanitary Service: In 1997, in collaboration with the Volunteers for Village Development (VVD) Ukhrul, the College undertook tree plantation in the whole of Ukhrul Town and its vicinity by planting 20,000 saplings.

To mark the Gandhi Jayanti of 2011 which is popularly known as Cleanliness Day, students of the college made through drainage cleaning from the college campus to TNL ground. As a part of the activity of NSS, tree plantation was taken up at Hospital, Naga Gate and on the road side of Hungpung on 31st July 2014.

In Field/Project Work and Exposures: In the year 1999, the College also gave exposures to the students by arranging a study tour to Kathmandu (Nepal) & Darjeeling, and to Kolkota in 2004, and to in and around Imphal in 2012. Science Stream students of class XI and XII were taken to Hoyang Kachui near, Shingcha( Gamnom) Kamjong Sub-Division for their project works on 8th

December 2012. On 23rd November 2013 also Science Students of class XI, XII and B.Sc. were taken to Lungva, Ramva Village for Science Project Work. Annual Science Project Work was undertaken at Leinguira, Kamphasom on 25th October 2014. Project work of Science students was conducted at Eco- Park, Khuilungtang, Hungpung on 27th Nov. 2015.

In Adventure: To make the science student more down-to-earth, the College since 2009 organized field works for collecting chromite, limestone and other specimen at Shirui Hills and the old cement factory, Hungpung.

A new chapter was added to the glorious history of Sentinel College when ‘Sentinel Adventure Club’ was formed in 2001. The club, with the aim to explore, challenge, discover and conquer the many challenges and thrills offered by nature and enhance the spirit of adventure in the students, made its first trip to the Chamu/Khayang area in October 2001. The club numbering 16 members visited the Tilulu waterfall and Achou Maki Lake. The club also visited many of the bordering villages and dispensed medicines to the inhabitants of the area.

In February 2002, the club, now numbering 42 members, made a successful one-day exploration of the Khangkhui Caves.
